AFL-CIO Convention Nominations

Do you know someone passionate about advocating for change at the legislative level? Nominate a colleague of yours to attend the AFL-CIO convention on March 18-20, 2022 to represent GRU, Local 402!

We are collecting nominations for delegates to attend, and a formal election (in the form of another survey) will go out to officially elect a delegate. All registration fees will be covered.

This year the in-person convention will be held on March 18-20, 2022 at The Hyatt Portland Regency at the Oregon Convention Center, 375 NE Holladay St., in Portland, Oregon. (No need for further travel!) Note: all attendees must show proof of vaccination and masks are required. Again, all registration fees will be covered.

You can nominate yourself or another GRU member to attend the convention using this webform. Because this event is taking place so soon, nominations must be submitted by Wednesday, 3/16 at noon. A second form will go out later that day to vote on the nominees. Only dues-paying GRU members are eligible to attend.

What is the AFL-CIO?

The Oregon AFL-CIO is the statewide federation of unions, representing over 300,000 working people across Oregon. Each year there is a convention held in which each local (including us!!) is allowed to send elected delegates to represent their union. The purpose of these conventions is to connect with others in various unions, and advocate for legislation that affects us union workers in Oregon.

The delegate will be involved in conversations advocating for various legislation that builds a fair and just economy for all workers in Oregon during the 2022 legislative session. We know that as the pandemic continues to disrupt our lives, it’s more important than ever to ensure workers have modern protections and are supported as much as possible - especially workers from marginalized communities and the essential workers who have kept Oregon running. The legislative priorities for the 2022 legislative session are a road map to a better Oregon for working people, and we’re excited to get to work to make it happen.
