Gaelen Guzman (he/him)

Events Officer

Gaelen received his B.S. in Molecular Biology at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where he studied immune regulation and orphan cytokines in the lab of Dr. Hidde Ploegh. Following his undergraduate studies, he spent three years studying protein-protein interactions with the Proteomics Platform at the Broad Institute under Dr. Monica Schenone’s mentorship. Gaelen began his graduate studies with the Program in Molecular and Cellular Biology at OHSU in September 2017 and joined the lab of Dr. Fikadu Tafesse, where is doctoral dissertation is focused on the host lipids which influence Mycobacterium tuberculosis infection.

Fun facts: During COVID, Gaelen forgot that the tram existed, so he now bikes up the hill every day. Unrelated to COVID, he eats a lot of spicy food; it's the only way he feels anything at all. He is an enthusiastic amateur bike mechanic, so if you have any bike problems that you wish were slightly worse than they are right now, please drop him a line.
