Homma is a fifth year PhD candidate in the Cancer Biology program working in Dr. Michael Heinrich’s lab at the Portland VA. Prior to graduate school, she earned her B.S. in Molecular, Cellular and Developmental biology at the University of Washington in Seattle. In the Heinrich lab, she researches the various mechanisms of drug resistance in order to provide better diagnostic tools and treatment strategies for gastrointestinal stromal tumor (GIST) patients. In her spare time, she volunteers with Women in Science PDX, paints, go to concerts and comic cons, and explores new restaurants around the city (especially those that serve fried chicken – one of her favorite foods).
As Equity and Inclusion chair, Homma’s goal is to ensure that all within the GRU bargaining unit feel included and have their voices and concerns heard. She is looking forward to serving on the Executive Board and working with other diversity and inclusion groups across campus and within the community.
